There is a specific lesson to be learnt in the experience of being out at sea, surrounded by cold, salty water in all directions, as one floats with the current and as waves sway one around. One learns how it feels not to be in control and given one split second of carelessness the ease with which one can get lost amongst the crashing waves of sea.

The world, some would say, is a sea itself; a whirlpool of vices and evils, wave after wave of societal pressures and negative manmade norms crashing into us whilst we struggle to keep our heads above the water; searching, yearning, begging for anything to pull us out of never-ending abyss.

For Ahmadi Muslims, Allah granted us a rope. A rope to save us from being swept away, a rope to guide us and pull us closer to light; Allah granted us Khilafat.

Through Khilafat, we as Ahmadi Muslims were given our purpose and our identity, and to me this is true in the most literal sense – the meaning of my name, immortality or eternity, has been a driving force for me to work harder every day, to create the impact of which I was named after. Since birth to now, Khilafat has been a means for me to learn about Islam, grow as a Muslim and ultimately to try to attain nearness to Allah. Every sermon, guidance and instruction of our beloved Khalifa, His Holiness Mirza Masroor Ahmad, the fifth and current worldwide head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, overflowing with so much knowledge, wisdom, and logic, resonates so deeply in our hearts that oftentimes his words are left echoing in our minds for days after. At every stage of our lives with whatever hurdle we may face, we have been blessed with the comfort of the prayers, guidance, and love of Khilafat and the blessings of Allah that come thereafter. Under the umbrella of Khilafat, we are protected.

No words can do justice to the incredible privilege of having Khilafat, the rope of Allah, extended to us, to guide us and to save us from the ills and dangers of society. I pray that we always remain closely attached to this blessed establishment, as it is only by holding on tightly to this rope of Allah that we can save ourselves from being swept away.
