Close the Gates of Destruction

Amna Shakoor, New Malden

“Look back over the past, with its changing empires that rose and fell, and you can foresee the future, too.” – 2nd century Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius.

As Israel continues its strikes on Gaza we have also had the first Ahmadi martyrdom in Gaza, of Sheikh Abu Sardana. Beloved Huzoor, His Holiness Mirza Masroor Ahmad (may Allah be his Helper) has repeatedly warned us that this war may spiral out of control and open the doors to World War III and global destruction.

It has now been nearly three months of continuous and barbaric bombardment in which thousands of Palestinians have been abused, tortured and martyred, the majority being children. Famously known as ‘the land of the Prophets’, Palestine has long been under dispute to the extent that Zionism was specifically created for the self-determination and establishment of an ancestral Jewish homeland in Palestine. For over 70 years the state of Israel has denied the rights of Palestinians, suppressing them under harsh military tyranny.

It is worth noting the prophecy stated in the Holy Qur’an that twice will the Israelites create disorder in the land1 and abuse their powers and then be divinely punished just like their predecessors. We know that the Palestinian people took in their Jewish brothers following the atrocities of World War II as the Jewish people were made to return to Palestine. Now, as is indicated in this prophecy, they are abusing their political authority. This leads us to then focus on the latter part of this prophecy2 which says they will be cast out as a result of this, and the land will be inherited by God’s righteous servants. We must however follow our beloved Caliph’s instructions and pay heed to our prayers, focusing on not only the freedom of the Palestinian people, but also pray that before the land is inherited by God’s righteous servants, any punishment sent by Allah does not equate to a global destruction.

If we study the Holy Qur’an, historically when a Prophet has been disobeyed by a people, that particular nation has been punished and, in many instances, destroyed3, serving as an example for the future. Such guidance had in the past been for a particular nation and that nation was then subject to this Divine punishment, but in this age the Qur’an has been sent as a guidance to the entirety of mankind, all over the world and until the end of time. In light of this, one must be concerned and pray for the de-escalation of this war because, as the prophecies of the Qur’an apply to mankind as a whole, such a punishment and destruction could be for the world at large, instead of being for only a particular nation. With ever increasing human rights violations occurring in Gaza, as well as parts of Lebanon and Syria, the Western and Arab world’s self-aggrandising and concerns over their wealth, when calls for a ‘sustainable’ ceasefire occurred during strong economic flowing periods such as Black Friday, and at the start of disruption in the Red Sea oil shipments, only to then use the reasoning of “reserving a right to respond” in order to reignite military action against Yemen a mere few weeks later.

It is sobering to note how strongly these powers are reflective of those mentioned in the Holy Qur’an that ultimately caused their own undoing.

May Allah the Almighty answer our prayers for peace and grant wisdom to the world. Ameen.
