Conveying His message is the sacred obligation assigned by God to His Prophets. On the one hand, this divine tradition shows its importance as well as its significance, and on the other, it emphasises that it is the Prophets alone who are the real torchbearers of this sacred trust; every moment of their lives is spent in the fulfilment of this obligation.
In respect to the importance of tabligh (conveying the message of Islam) Allah says in Holy Qur’an:
‘And who is better in speech than he who invites men to Allah and does good works and says “I am surely of those who submit?”
And good and evil are not alike. Repel evil with that which is best. And lo, he between whom and thyself was enmity, will become as though he were a warm friend.
But none is granted that save those who are steadfast; and none is granted that except the one who possess a large share of excellence.’ (41:34-36)
His Holiness Mirza Masroor Ahmad, the Caliph or Khalifa of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, said in his Friday sermon on 9th of April 2010, that the task of the revival of Islam is the task of each and every Ahmadi. For this we need to pay attention to our own condition and actively work towards improving it. The Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) made it our responsibility to try and work, according to our individual capacities and capabilities, for the purpose for which he was sent – to revive the glory of Islam. One is to utilize all resources that are available to perform this task.
Therefore, every Ahmadi without exception must become a dai’ lillah (one who summons to Allah). The time is gone when the task was entrusted to only a few. Now is the time when even children will have to convey the message, and older people as well. Tabligh is not really an optional task; a believer’s spiritual personality will not be complete without it.
Tabligh is so important that Allah, addressing the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said in the Holy Qur’an:
‘O Messenger! convey to the people what has been revealed to thee from thy Lord; and if thou do it not, thou hast not conveyed His Message at all…’ (5:68)
For this injunction the whole of ummah (Muslim community) is accountable. Therefore, we must beware our attitudes, not exhibit any carelessness or any fault that would give the chance to opponents to persecute and oppose us. Apart from this, and of primary importance, is the constant need for prayer.
In one of his addresses in 2018, His Holiness Mirza Masroor Ahmad (may Allah be his Helper) said:
“In terms of tabligh, from a young age, Waqifeen-e-Nau should have the habit of spreading the message of Islam. In today’s world, many people hold a negative view of Islam and so it is a great challenge for all of you to counter the false impression that has developed. It is your duty even more than others, to show the world that Islam is a religion of peace, love and compassion. Thus, at weekends or during holidays, you should do tabligh and play your role in defending Islam from the false allegations that are levelled against it.” 1
Our role is to make every possible effort to convey the true message of Islam and Ahmadiyyat to others. May Allah enable us all to make sacrifices and efforts for the sake of tabligh. Ameen.
